Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises ten Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
Design and Technology
We have designed the Design and Technology curriculum to develop the children's skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials and food. Our aim is to encourage the children's creativity and encourage them to think about important issues.
At Bawdeswell Primary school we follow the National Curriculum guidance for Design and Technology. We work on a 2-year rolling programme and we adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of the children. In Reception the children are given a range of different opportunities to be designers and use materials creatively, including opportunities to prepare food and cook. The children across KS1 and KS2 are given the opportunity to learn about designing, build structures, mechanisms, tools and materials. They also learn how to evaluate ideas and products.
Additionally, the children are given opportunities to prepare food and cook in preparation for adult life. There are strong links to our Science curriculum (My Body, Eating and Digestion, Health and Movement and healthy Bodies). The children are also given the opportunity to cook outside in the forest! In Reception and Y1 the children plan and make a Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Y2 pizza, Y3/4 investigate American food and how it is produced, including seasonal variegations. Finally, in Y5/6 the children explore the origins of the burger, making and cooking them on a summer BBQ.
This is underpinned by our Values and Ethos statement which shows our aim is for the children to:
‘Love your learning’
This is also underpinned in our Learning Wheel:
‘Have a love of investigating and building’.
