Our Learning

Music

By Year 6 00008We have designed our Music curriculum to help the children foster a love of music. We believe music can be a great motivator, can help to promote positive attitudes and can develop a strong sense of belonging.

At Bawdeswell Primary school we follow the National Curriculum guidance for music.   We work on a 2-year rolling programme and we adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of the children. Music continues to be celebrated throughout the school. Major events throughout the year are underpinned by singing in school performances and in church. The seasons and calendar year are marked with our Harvest festival, Christmas celebrations, Easter celebrations and end of year performances.

The children have the opportunity to learn to sing songs, play tuned and un-tuned instruments, listen to a range of pieces of music, create music, perform and learn about written music and the history of music.

The learning is sequenced to enable the children to always build on previous learning to deepen and broaden their understanding of music. Links are made to other areas of the Curriculum for example links to PSHE (Friendship)

This is underpinned by our Values and Ethos statement which shows our aim is for the children to:

‘Love your learning’
